Textual analysis of 'Q' magazine front cover

'Q' was first published in 1986, setting itself apart from other music magazines with monthly production and high standards of photography and printing. It is published by Bauer and has a sister magazine 'Mojo', which is also published by Bauer. The tag line on the magazine claims that it is 'Britain's Biggest Music Magazine'. The name 'Q' comes from the word 'cue' (as in the sense of cueing a record, ready to play), and this is what it was going to be called originally. They changed it then to 'Q' to make it simpler and a single letter title will be more eye catching on news stands. 'Q' have a different approach to the market, because in stead of focusing on one main type of music, they write about all types.
The mast head in a white 'Q' on a red square background. This really stands out because of the colours used and the red shows awareness and catches the eye. Underneath is the tag line which helps to uniform the magazine and gives a brand identity. The font in is sans serif. The main headline is 'The Song Writers' and is written in gold. This shows that the song writers featured are the best you can get. Lesser important writing is written in black. One the top right hand corner of the page is an article about a well know musician and his name is written in red. This reflects from the masthead and shows the importance of the person within the magazine.
The main image on the cover are the three people, who appear to be the song writers the main article is about. You can see the whole of each person but the one man appears to be standing in front of the other people, making him appear more important. The colours they are wearing reflect the font colours and they all have a serious expression on their faces, which i think shows just how important and exclusive this interview with them is.
