Draft Contents Page
This is the draft i have created for my contents page.
Good points:
- the colour scheme is the same as the front cover
- I have included several pictures
- I put an editors note in
Bad points:
- The writing might be a bit to large and not enough of it
- there is some negative space but the smaller images
Otherewise i am fairly pleased with my contents page, but will probably make a few change before completeing my fianl contants page.

Draft Front Page
This is my draft for my front cover.
The good points:
- The image fits well
- The red font draw the audiences attention
- I like the font
The bad points:
- i was unable to edit out the white in the middle of the title.
- and in the name 'Ginge'
- its hard to see the writing in the bottom left hand corner
Otherwise im happy with my draft.
Weekly Review
This week i have been on half term, so i used my time mainly to edit my images, as i have the facility to do so at home. I have tried out many techniques and different ideas. I liked using the black and white effect, but once i put the images against the masthead and cover lines it blended in to much and didn't stand out very well. Another process i used in something call clarfi on paint shop. It makes the image more clearer and chrisper. After editing many images i am still undicided as to which one to use for each part of my magazine.

Weekly Review
This week i have mainly focused on doing draft layouts for all sections of my magazine. I looked at several magazines to give me ideas for whatkind of layout i will use. On most of my layouts i have made the main image the main focal point. I think this will show the audeience viewing my magazine , what to expec at a quice glance. for example my magazine will be mainly about bands and indie music, so someone viewing my magzine on a news stand will get a good idea of what to expect and if the magazine is for that person. These are only drafts and could potentually change. I will include more writing and coverlines on the actual magazine than shown on the drafts, becuase they are just layout ideas. The next thing i went on to do was a draft of my magazine. I tested out a few images and fonts which would be suitable, so now i should be able to get a good idea of the kind of fonts to use.

Draft layouts of front cover
These are the two draft layouts i have come up with. the first one is really simple, which i like. I think it will focus on the picture rather than whats in the magazine. I got this idea from the 'Q' magazine analysis i have done.
The second layout is a bit more complicated and focuses on the contants and the coverlines rather than the image. I will use the same image what ever layout i chose, and this image will be of a band.

All in all i think this week have been very productive.

Photoshoot plan
I have been to a few settings that i might use for my photo shoot. Theses are mainly docile and abandoned places with many levels of high. i think this would be a good effect because i can put the band members on different levels to show the contrast.
The main reason i have chosen these places is because i think it will be like a reference to what the bands music is like.
Weekly review
This will be the first review that i am posting for this project. This is becuase due to unexpected snow and illness i have not been able to keep up with my work. I have finally caught up to date.
For the past few weeks i have been doing my textual analysis. I have found out it takes a lot of work to produce a music magazine, from researching these magazines. From analysising these magaiznes i have gained valuable information and ideas that will greatly influence my magazine. Having looked mainly at 'Q' magazine, i have dicided i would target my magazine at indie music. This is because i think it would be the easiest target group because there are many people my age who listen to this type of music and therefore would get easy access to information on this music. I would also be able to use bands and band instrments, which are readly avaliable for my photoshoot.

Textual ananlysis of 'Mojo' magaizne double page spread
The main feature of this artical is about a man, Leonard Cohen, and his influence in music. The main colour scheme in the article has kept inkeeping with the front cover. It is just black and white colouring. There is colour in the later pictures of him. I think they have done this to show that the music world was black and white before this man, and is now coloured after him.
The font they have used is serif. This is quite formal and inkeeping with the pace af the artical. The first letter of the artical 'I' is very large and has been used to frame the opening introduction. This shows the importance of the artical. The opening paragraph is in a bigger sized font, compaired to the rest of the artical.
I think that the page spread is really boring and plain. Although i think that the magazine have done this for a reason. This is becuase Cohen influenced music around the time when the saying 'its just about the music' was around. Therefore i think this article demostrates this. I think that 'Mojo' have stripped ther artical of the usual colours and pictures, just to show the it is all to do with the music.
Textual analysis of 'Q' magazine contents page
At the top of the page is the masthead with the title 'contents'. Before that is the name of the magazine 'Q'. This helps to remind the audience of the magazine name and keep in tone with the cover. next to that it the date and website address. This is so that the audience know where to go if they want to look in to the magazine more. The layout of the page is pretty usual for a contents Page. There is the list of features and some small images.
The main feature of this page is the picture of Jon Bon Jovi in the centre. This shows that it is the main article. In the image he is looking directly at you and the eye contact invites you to read the art cal about him. The colour of the image is plain tonal colours which makes the red from some of the writing stand out. The words written in red are the page numbers and the list heading are highlighted in red.
The first list is the 'features'. It is above the other list because they are the more important parts in the magazine. The list goes in numerical order. After each heading for each article is a small bit of information about it. They are quite lay back and informal in the way of writing these tag lines. This gives a more relaxed feeling, so the reader feels easy enough to read the magazine anywhere. Whereas the list below stating the 'every month' list doesnt have many of these tagines. This is becuase the heading usually specks for its self. Also the fact that the reader might know what it is becuase they read the magazine every month, gives them a sense of ownership.

Textual analysis of 'Q' magazine contents page
The issue that i am looking at is from January 2010. Due to the change in decade, this has inspired 'Q' magazine to produce an article about the artists of the century. Therefore the main part of the contents page has been dedicated to the page numbers and advertisement of the article they have done about the artists 'Q' have decided are the best artists of the century. This becomes the main feature of the contents page. To show that this is the main part of the contents page, as well as the magazine, the writ ting is in a grey shaded area. The names of the artists are in red and any other information is in black. After each of the names, there is a small quote from the interview to hook the reader in and make them want to read more. They are quite witty and interesting.
Next to the grey box, is the list if the other things that are in the magazine. These appear to be regular uptakes which the audience will identify as the magazine brand identity. The title above the list is 'Regulars'. These are things such as mail and crosswords. Above the list of 'regulars' is a small image of the front cover. This helps to remind the audience of the front cover and what hooked them in to the magazine and what bits they wanted to read up on. On the bottom left of the page is the 'Q review'. A small article about one artist. Next to it is an image of an article in the magazine. The overall colour and tone of the contents page is that it is in keeping with the front cover. The same colours and fonts are used.

Textual analysis of 'Q' magazine front cover
'Q' was first published in 1986, setting itself apart from other music magazines with monthly production and high standards of photography and printing. It is published by Bauer and has a sister magazine 'Mojo', which is also published by Bauer. The tag line on the magazine claims that it is 'Britain's Biggest Music Magazine'. The name 'Q' comes from the word 'cue' (as in the sense of cueing a record, ready to play), and this is what it was going to be called originally. They changed it then to 'Q' to make it simpler and a single letter title will be more eye catching on news stands. 'Q' have a different approach to the market, because in stead of focusing on one main type of music, they write about all types.
The mast head in a white 'Q' on a red square background. This really stands out because of the colours used and the red shows awareness and catches the eye. Underneath is the tag line which helps to uniform the magazine and gives a brand identity. The font in is sans serif. The main headline is 'The Song Writers' and is written in gold. This shows that the song writers featured are the best you can get. Lesser important writing is written in black. One the top right hand corner of the page is an article about a well know musician and his name is written in red. This reflects from the masthead and shows the importance of the person within the magazine.
The main image on the cover are the three people, who appear to be the song writers the main article is about. You can see the whole of each person but the one man appears to be standing in front of the other people, making him appear more important. The colours they are wearing reflect the font colours and they all have a serious expression on their faces, which i think shows just how important and exclusive this interview with them is.

Textual analysis on ‘Kerrang’ magazine front cover
Kerrang Magazine was first published in 1981. It is a weekly magazine produced in the United Kingdom. It is published by Bauer, who also publish Q, another leading music magazine. The magazine mainly focus's on metal and rock music, although trends such as emo and metalcore, change the emphasis within the magazine from time to time. The name 'Kerrang' is an onomatopoeic. It refers to the sound made by playing a power cord on an electric guitar. The target gender is unclear. For example, the colour scheme, besides the writing, is quite dark and dreary, stereotypically male colour schemes. Where as some of the content, such as ''Free posters! the sexiest men in rock!'' is aimed at a more female audience.
The whole layout of the front cover, puts emphasis on the idea of the name. This is because everything looks as if it has been a bit shook up and discord-like. The main font used is sans serif. This is bold and emphasises all of the words. it has no 'feet' on the letters. Most of the writing is in white, except the title, which is in black and the words they want to emphasis, which is is yellow. Some of the words in yellow include: the tag line ''Life Is Loud'' and a tag on an article ''Part 2''. On the bottom of the magazine is the banner. This shows all the other names that will appear in the magazine. There is also the word 'plus' before the names showing that there is more in this magazine compared to the other ones on the shelf.
The main image on the page are the two band members from Fall Out Boy. Their image has been enlarged to cover about ⅔ of the page. The image has been cut from around their heads, so you Can see the name 'Kerrang' in the background. This shows their dominance with in the magazine. The lead sing of the band's head is in the centre of where the title looks as if its been smashed. Showing that he is likely to make the sound 'Kerrang'. The other images on the cover include pictures of the people who will be in the magazine. There are also no captions on the cover images. I think this helps to show a brand identity, and show that if you need to be told who these people are then maybe the magazine isn't for you.

Textual analysis on ‘Top of the Pops’ magazine front cover
Top of the Pops is a magazine that is targeted at young teens, between the ages of 11 and 15. It is more targeted at girls. The magazine is published by BBC magazines and began publication in 1995. It is a monthly 'gossip' magazine, with some content being dedicated to music. Other features include fashion and celebrity gossip. The magazine is a spin off from the television show. The name 'Top of the Pops' shows that the magazine is the best one you can get for information on pop music.
The lay out has used bright and bold colours to catch attention to the reader. They have used the colour pink which is the dominant colour of the magazine. This is stereotypical of what young girls would like. Any colverlines they have used on the cover are in the colour yellow, whcih is used to attrect the attention of the readers. It also shows 'pester power'. This is because young girls would want this magazine and will pester their parents to get it.The words they have used are quite simple and easy to see and read. This is because again, young girls would read it. The main feature on the front cover of top of the pops magazine is the picture of Cheryl Cole. The image of her is printed over the mast head of the magazine. This shows her dominance within the magazine and the stuff the magazine is about, i.e fashion and music. The is a tag line along the bottom with pictures of the posters which are included inside the magazine. The cover lines are typical of what a magazine for young girls would be. They include fashion items that are relevant to themselves, celebrities which they would know of, eg Miley Cyrus and quizzes which would interest themselves.
They have used lots of different types of fonts on the front cover. It is curvy and interesting fonts which are constantly changing. I think this is in keeping with the 'tone' of the magazine which is relaxed and young. They have used initial words, such as 'OMG'. The magazine is relating to their target audience.
The price of the magazine is £2.30. It appears under neath the bar code. Next to the date and the issue number.
